Who Is
God?

Introduction:
Why is this question important? It is important because your
view of who God is shapes your view of yourself and how you
should live in this world. The source of our information
about God must be His revealed Word. (2 Timothy 3:16–17) So
who is God?
The
Creator
God is the beginning and the sustainer of all that exists.
His handiwork is seen in His creation. (Psalm 8:1, 3–4) The
vast heavens declare His glory. When we look at the stars,
the mountains, or the smallest living creature, we see the
power and wisdom of God on display. He is eternal—having no
beginning and no end. (Revelation 1:8) He is the Alpha and
the Omega, the One who was, who is, and who is to come. The
Creator also gave us something no animal or plant possesses:
an eternal spirit. (John 17:1–2) Because we are made in His
image, we are capable of knowing Him, loving Him, and
serving Him. Every breath we take is sustained by His will.
The
Heavenly Father
God is more than a distant Creator—He is our Father in
heaven who cares deeply for His children. Jesus taught that
we should not worry about what we will eat, drink, or wear,
because our Father knows what we need. (Matthew 6:25–33) The
same God who clothes the lilies and feeds the birds provides
for us in every way. He is aware of even the smallest
details of our lives and hears us before we speak. (Isaiah
65:24) Paul reminds us that God works all things together
for good to those who love Him and are called according to
His purpose. (Romans 8:28) His kindness and grace are
constant, and His mercy never fails. (Psalm 103:8) Our
Father brings help, comfort, and intervention into our lives
when we need it most. His love is steadfast and unchanging.
The
Savior
The ultimate expression of God’s character is revealed in
His role as Savior. God showed His love for us while we were
still sinners by sending His Son to die for us. (Romans 5:8)
We did not deserve it. Jesus bore our sins and our
punishment. (Isaiah 53:5) Through His sacrifice, we have
been cleansed and made new. (Hebrews 10:17–22) Without this
act of divine mercy, we would have no hope. But through
Christ, our sins are forgiven and remembered no more. (1
John 1:9; Psalm 103:12) He has removed them as far as the
east is from the west. Our Savior not only forgives, He
restores us to fellowship with the Father and gives us
eternal life.
Conclusion:
Let us always remember that God loves us and will never
forsake us. He is our Creator, our Father, and our Savior.
Because He made us, cares for us, and redeemed us, our lives
must reflect His holiness and gratitude for His unending
grace.
