Sermon Outlines and Lessons on
Idolatry |
Idolatry:
|
|
The Abominations of the Canaanites
An abomination is something utterly
detestable to God. The Canaanites practiced horrific
acts—child sacrifice, witchcraft, and divination—to seek
guidance from false gods. Through Moses, God commanded
Israel to avoid these practices entirely and to trust
only in His revealed word. Their obedience would
distinguish them as His holy people. |

Gods At War
There is a constant battle for our hearts. Every
desire, ambition, and loyalty reveals which god we serve. The
Bible warns that idols are not just statues but anything that
replaces God in our devotion. The question we must ask is
simple—who or what truly sits on the throne of your heart? |
|
Idolatry Is Alive and Well
So what is idolatry? It is service to and worship of anything or
anyone which takes the place of Jehovah God. (Exodus
20:3-6) Idolatry is making something a higher priority than God,
preferring it over God, allowing it to be in competition with God.

Removing The
Landmarks The
prophet Hosea warned Israel that their spiritual leaders had led them into
idolatry and sin. Ephraim, once richly blessed, had moved the ancient
landmarks of God’s truth. Both priests and rulers corrupted worship, and
judgment was near. God’s boundaries are fixed—His people must not alter what
He has established. |
