Courage and Truth From Micaiah

Hello everyone. I hope you are about to get John 8:44 memorized. Our Joshua Generation study today comes from 1 Kings 22:1-36. Jehoshaphat had agreed to join with Ahab to retrieve the city of Ramoth in Gilead that had been captured from Israel. Before going, Jehoshaphat wanted to inquire of the Lord concerning their potential success or failure. Ahab gathered the prophets of Baal to ask them. Since there is no real Baal, there could, of course, be real prophecy from him. The prophets simply decided what Ahab wanted to hear and told him that. Jehoshaphat was not satisfied and wanted to seek the word of the Lord from a prophet of the Lord. Only one prophet was offered by Ahab. His name was Micaiah. But Ahab hated him, because he had no good thing to tell Ahab (because Ahab was evil). Let’s learn some lessons from the reading in 1 Kgs. 22.

  • There is a stark difference between truth and lies. Even Ahab could tell the difference (22:15-16)
  • Some men would rather hear error than truth. That is why Ahab hated Micaiah. Today, so many do not want to hear truth about salvation, morality, creation, their children’s misconduct, their physical health, their weight, their clothes size, etc. If we love truth, we fear no questions.
  • If we follow what the multitude says, we will usually be involved in a lie. We must resist peer pressure to do wrong.
  • Jehoshaphat knew that only the Lord had the truth. That is still true today.
  • Micaiah’s courage never wavered. Our determination should be as strong to say, “As the Lord liveth, what the Lord sayeth unto me, that will I speak.” May we be as strong as Micaiah.

Have a great day.

Truth fears no questions.

Matt 11:28-29
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls."
