What Do You Think About God?
Introduction:
(Primary Scripture Reference: Isaiah 6:1–3)
What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most
important thing about us. Our worship rises or falls according to
our thoughts of Him. When we fail to love God as we should, it is
because we have forgotten who He truly is. Let us remind ourselves
of the greatness and glory of Jehovah by studying His attributes
revealed in His Word.
The Holiness of God
God’s holiness binds all His other attributes together. It describes
His infinite perfection and complete purity. Hannah prayed in 1
Samuel 2:2, “No one is holy like the Lord, for there is none beside
You, nor is there any rock like our God.” He is set apart from
everything and everyone. The psalmist wrote in Psalm 93:5, “Your
testimonies are very sure; holiness adorns Your house, O Lord,
forever.” In Isaiah 6:1–3, the prophet saw the Lord upon His throne,
and the seraphim cried, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the
whole earth is full of His glory.” To repeat the word three times
shows infinite completeness. Revelation 4:8 repeats the same
declaration, “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is
and is to come.” His holiness separates Him from all creation and
explains His wrath against sin. Because He is perfectly holy, He
cannot tolerate evil or injustice. Paul reminds us in Romans 12:19,
“Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” His holiness
demands righteousness, yet through His mercy He offers forgiveness
through Christ.
The Eternal Nature of God
In Exodus 3:13–15, when Moses asked God for His name, God said, “I
AM WHO I AM.” This declaration shows His self-existence. He had no
beginning and will have no end. Psalm 90:1–2 declares, “Before the
mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and
the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” He is
outside the bounds of time, unchanging and ever-present. Our lives
move moment by moment, but God is the same yesterday, today, and
forever (Hebrews 13:8). His eternal nature reminds us that He is not
limited by time or circumstance. His plans and promises never fade
or fail. He reigns as “the King eternal, immortal, invisible,” as
Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 1:17.
The Omniscience of God
God knows all things—past, present, and future. Isaiah 46:9–10
records His words: “I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring
the end from the beginning.” Nothing escapes His sight. Hebrews 4:13
tells us, “There is no creature hidden from His sight, but all
things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give
account.” Job 34:21 says, “His eyes are on the ways of man, and He
sees all his steps.” The psalmist wrote, “The Lord looks from
heaven; He sees all the sons of men” (Psalm 33:13). He knows every
thought of the heart and every motive behind our actions. Revelation
2:23 reveals the words of Jesus: “I am He who searches the minds and
hearts.” His perfect knowledge brings comfort to the faithful and
warning to the unrepentant. Nothing surprises Him, for all is open
before His eyes.
The Omnipotence of God
God is all-powerful. Psalm 115:3 says, “Our God is in heaven; He
does whatever He pleases.” His power created all things from nothing
by His word alone. Jeremiah 10:12 says, “He has made the earth by
His power; He has established the world by His wisdom, and has
stretched out the heavens at His discretion.” His power is
unlimited. Job 26:14 reminds us that what we understand of God’s
power is but a whisper of His might. His omnipotence assures us that
nothing can prevent His purposes. Every plan of God will come to
pass exactly as He intends. The resurrection of Christ was the
supreme display of that power—proof that God’s will cannot be
stopped.
The Justice and Fairness
of God
Moses described God in Deuteronomy 32:4, saying, “He is the Rock,
His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice, a God of truth
and without injustice; righteous and upright is He.” Everything God
does is right and good. He is impartial in judgment, never favoring
one above another. Psalm 7:10–11 declares, “My defense is of God,
who saves the upright in heart. God is a just judge, and God is
angry with the wicked every day.” His justice ensures that sin will
be punished and righteousness rewarded. 2 Corinthians 5:10 tells us
that all must appear before the judgment seat of Christ to receive
according to what we have done. God’s justice is perfect because His
nature is perfect. Every judgment He renders will be absolutely
right.
What Do You Think About
God? Sermon Outline:
Introduction:
In 1 Corinthians
Chapter 8, the Apostle Paul addresses a controversy among Christians
in Corinth concerning meat offered to idols. Some believers,
confident in their knowledge that idols are nothing, felt free to
eat such meat without hesitation. Others, with weaker consciences,
struggled with guilt and confusion. Paul reminds the church that
while knowledge is valuable, love is greater. Our actions must be
guided by concern for others’ spiritual welfare, not merely our
personal understanding. The lesson challenges every Christian to
balance liberty with love—using knowledge responsibly, respecting
tender consciences, and ensuring that our freedom never becomes a
stumbling block.
