GOD=92S PATTERN

-Introduction

-Many of my fond childhood memories = involve my=20 grandma and grandpa.

&nbs= p;=20 -Grandpa =96 working in the garden =96 planting, pulling, digging, etc; = the barns =96=20 cows and

&nbs= p;  =20 chickens =96 I can still see and smell the dirt of the garden and the = hay in the=20 barns.

&nbs= p;=20 -Grandma =96 helping her break green beans, seeing her canning, smelling = and=20 eating her=20
           &nb= sp;           &nbs= p;       =20 cooking, watching her sew

-When I think about the time spent = with grandma,=20 there was always one thing that I dreaded =96 the

times = that she would go=20 to the fabric department at the store to look at patterns =96 = boring.

-pattern =96 (Mirriam/Webster=20 Dictionary)

          &nbs= p; -noun=20 =96 =931.  an ideal model   2.  something used as a = model for=20 making things=85

          &nbs= p; -verb=20 =96 =93to form according to a pattern=94

-In the time we have this morning, = let=92s talk=20 about God=92s pattern for us =96 His ideal model that we

are to = pattern=20 ourselves after.

-God = Provides=20 Patterns

-God is not the author of confusion = (1 Cor=20 14:33).  Therefore, He provides patterns that are to be

followed = =96 patterns=20 that provide order and cohesiveness.

-When we follow God=92s instructions = (patterns),=20 we all benefit.

&nbs= p; -Jas=20 3:13-18 =96 Envy, strife and confusion come from following the ways of = the=20 world.  We

          &nbs= p;            = ;            =              =     are to follow the wisdom which is from above. =20

          &nbs= p; -Where=20 do we find it?  - God=92s word

-Throughout the scriptures, we find = that there=20 are blessings (here and to come) for those who conform

to = God=92s=20 patterns.  For those who do not, there are dreadful consequences = (here and=20 to come).

          -Josh = 22:1-5,=20 10-12, 15-16

-The = people viewed=20 this altar as a violation of God=92s pattern (His instructions).  = Therefore,=20 they

= considered=20 it a trespass and rebellion and feared the consequences that would=20 result.

          -vs = 21-29 =96=20 =93behold the pattern=94 (vs 28)

-Additional = Old Testament=20 Examples

-Rom 15:4 - To help us with our = application of=20 the scriptures, we should try to think of Old Testament

&nbs= p;         =20 examples which will motivate us in our efforts.

-Noah & the Ark =96 Gen 6 = =96 Was Noah=20 supposed to build the ark according to a specific pattern?

          &nbs= p; -Did=20 he?  Gen 6:22

-Moses and the Tabernacle =96 = Was the=20 tabernacle and the things associated with it to be made after = a  =20

specific = pattern? =20 Ex 25 =96 30

-Did = Moses and the=20 people follow the specific pattern prescribed by God?  Ex = 35-39

          -Ex=20 39:42-43

-Solomon and the=20 Temple =96 Was Solomon given any type of a pattern to follow? =96 1 = Chron 28 (vs=20 19)

          -1 King = 6:38 =96=20 =93the fashion of it=94 =96 (Strongs) - mishpat =96 =93=85a = verdict=85pronounced=20 judicially=94

          &nbs= p;            = ;            =             &= nbsp;         =20 (Brown-Driver-Briggs)- =93judgment, justice, ordinance=94

          &nbs= p;            = ;            =             &= nbsp;           &n= bsp;         =20 -Lev 18:4 =96 =93my judgments=94 =96 same word

-The = pattern that=20 God had given was binding (authoritative).

-The Example of Jeroboam

-Consider = the following=20 question, =93In the Old Testament scriptures, who is condemned more = often=20

= than any other=20 person?=94 =96 King Jeroboam, the first king of the Northern kingdom of=20 Israel

-There = are 25=20 scriptures which contain a condemning reference to Jeroboam

-Often = times, the=20 kings who did evil in the sight of God are classified as those who = followed the=20

          =  ways of=20 Jeroboam.

-What was it that Jeroboam did that = was so=20 terrible?

          &nbs= p; -1=20 Kings 12:28-33

          &nbs= p; -vs 28=20 =96 =93gods=94 =96 (Strongs) - Elohiym =96 =93gods in the ordinary = sense; but specifically=20 used (in the

          &nbs= p;            = ;            = =20   plural thus, especially with the article) of the Supreme = God=94

          &nbs= p;            = ;=20 -Gen 1:1 =96 =93Elohiym=94

&nbs= p;=20 -Jeroboam wasn=92t necessarily trying to direct the people=92s attention = away from=20 worshipping and

&nbs= p;  =20 serving the true God of heaven.

&nbs= p;=20 -However, he changed God=92s prescribed pattern and did according = to what=20 =93he had devised of

          &nbs= p;  =20 his own heart=94 (vs 33)

&nbs= p; -How=20 did the Christians at Rome receive that freedom?

          &nbs= p;=20 -=93form=94 =96 (Vines)** - =93the representation or pattern=85a cast or = frame into which=20 molten material is
