What does the Bible say About Salvation?

Bible Verses on salvation

Salvation Is

In scripture, salvation is discussed in many places.  It is of vital importance to mankind in that without it, we are doomed to an eternity of separation from God.   Every passage of the word of God concerning salvation is to be understood in the light of other passages bearing on this subject. God’s will for man on salvation is to be understood in the light of ALL that is written about it.

Salvation is a Promise
Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers (Romans 15:8).  For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call (Acts 2:39).  And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life (1 John 2:25).

Salvation is A Reward
Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward.  For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise (Hebrews 10:35-36).  Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ (Colossians 3:24).

Salvation is a Prize
And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.  Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize ? So run, that ye may obtain (1 Corinthians 9:23-24).  If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.  Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:11-14 ).

Salvation is a Hope
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began (Titus 1:2).  That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life (Titus 3:7 ).  Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works (Titus 2:13-14).  But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation (1 Thessalonians 5:8).

Salvation is an Inheritance
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you (1 Peter 1:3-4).  And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance (Hebrews 9:15).

Salvation is a Gift
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand (John 10:28).  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).  Labour not for the meat which perisheth , but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed (John 6:27).  Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift (2 Corinthians 9:15).

Salvation is in Jesus Christ
For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him (1 Thessalonians 5:9-10).  Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may
also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory (2 Timothy 2:10).  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12).

Salvation is Eternal
And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life (1 John 5:20).   Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life (Jude 21).  And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son (1 John 5:11).  Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory (2 Timothy 2:10 ).

Salvation is to be Strived for
Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,  Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able (Luke 13:23-24).  Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12).

Salvation is Urgent
Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice (Hebrews 3:7).  For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succored thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2).

Salvation is through the forgiveness of sin
To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins (Luke 1:77).
To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.  In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace (Ephesians 1:6-7).

Salvation is for the Obedient
But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile (Romans 2:10).  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him (Hebrews 5:9).

Salvation is by Grace
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8).  What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?  God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? (Romans 6:1-2).

Salvation is through Faith
Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Peter 1:5). That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises (Hebrews 6:12).

Salvation is for all
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16 ).  And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely (Revelation 22:17).  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek (Romans 1:16).

Salvation is all the things listed above.

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.  For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.  Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:9-12).  And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.  Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:  Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled (Hebrews 12:13-15).  Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.  But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. (2 Peter 3:17-18).
